The REM™ Dreamline™ range of bath, bed and work fragrance products aims to help you with your sleep. It's effects are subtle. The products are not 'knock-out' drops or pills. They aim to help you achieve a lifestyle that promotes good sleep.
The main principles are:
- Temperature regulation - normally body temperature goes down during the night. The brain actively controls this by causing the blood vessels in the hands, feet and head to open up and release heat. A hot bath prior to bed, or massaging the hands, face or feet, encourages this loss of heat. Most of the product range encourages users to either have a bath or to massage their hands, feet or face.
- Smells can be associated with conditioned responses. Using the range to associate smells with, e.g. going to sleep, means that those smells can then be used at other times, e.g. after awakening during sleep or for a power nap during the day.
- The range contains essential oils that are strongly associated (folklore) with sleep-promoting properties.
Having a bath prior to going to bed (in a cool room) helps promote good quality sleep. Many of the products encourage having a bath. Sleep onset is associated with heat loss in the hands, feet or face. Cold hands or feet don't help sleep. So, by having a bath to warm-up, or by using some of the massage lotions (e.g. the foot-oil) encourages this peripheral heat loss.
Most of the products use a mixture of techniques that are associated with promoting good sleep: aromatherapy, temperature regulation and the touch therapies (reflexology, acupressure, shiatsu, etc).
